(NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE) -- The House of Representatives will have no choice but to pass the Gang of Eight immigration bill by the end of the year, Senator Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) said on Fox News Sunday.
“I believe that by the end of this year, the House will pass the Senate bill,” he said. “I know that’s not what they think now, and they’ll say ‘oh, no, that’s not what’s going to happen,’ but I think it will.”
House Republicans have expressed strong opposition to the Gang of Eight bill, but Schumer predicted that the political dynamic would shift in the coming months; Republicans would ultimately urge House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) to pass the Senate bill, even if they won’t vote for it, in order to “get it off our backs.” National Republicans will pressure Boehner to pass the bill to avoid becoming a “minority party for a generation.”
… “This has the potential for being one of the greatest civil rights movements we’ve ever seen,” he said. “I could see, at the end of this summer, a million people on the Mall in August asking for the bill.” Read more via NRO...
