She laments the injustice of slavery right up to the injustice of blacks in the 60s. She is right to feel sorrow for those innocents who were persecuted for the color of their skin. She is right, but she also has to understand America in 2013 is a world away from that time.
She brings up Trayvon Martin as a commentary on the value Americans place on black life and she is dead wrong. If Americans as a whole had little regard for black Americans there would not be a black American sitting in the oval office and there would be no Oprah.
It seems Oprah lives in the world of 50 years ago. She dwells on the past. Like Sharpton, Jackson, NAACP and Obama, she doesn't see or doesn’t want to see that Martin Luther King's dream came to life in the America of today. She needs to remember that the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman tragedy had nothing to do with race and everything to do with a situation gone wrong.
Oprah could better serve the black community by making movies and PSAs to help the huge black on black death rate in her city of Chicago. She played with facts as liberals will do and inflated the number of blacks lynched into the millions even though the Tuskegee Institute's (an all-black college) estimate is that approximately 3,446 black Americans were lynched from 1882-1967.
She remains tone-deaf and said not a word about the thousands of black Americans killed every year in black on black crime. Lament the past yes, but live in the present and do what you can do to help people today. Liberal guilt does not work any longer. The well-worn race card has expired. The facts are there for all to see.
With her vast audience, a magazine, and her OWN TV network, she could be an extremely positive influence on young black women. She herself lived through the heartbreak of giving birth in her young teens. Why does she choose not to address the issue of unwanted pregnancy? That is where her influence belongs! That is a far better cause and would prove to be a far better legacy for her than aligning herself with the race baiters.
So Oprah, Sharpton, Jackson, NAACP and Obama need to take a good long look in the mirror and ask themselves just who they are really trying to help with all the race baiting and finger-pointing. Are they just trying to keep themselves relevant or do they really wanting to help those who need it?
Stirring the pot of hatred will not do anyone any good for their cause. The only people who profit from it are those who are doing it for their own selfish gain – Oprah, Sharpton, Jackson, NAACP and President Obama.
