Colorado High School Crowns Transgender Student “Homecoming Princess”…

During Sand Creek High School’s Friday night football game, 16-year-old transgender student Scarlett Lenh was crowned 2014 homecoming princess by majority vote, reports Colorado Springs’ Gazette.com.

Lenh, born Andy Lenh, began “identifying” himself as a “female transgender” just this year, and only began dressing like a girl this week. But for Friday’s homecoming, he beat out three female candidates — two of whom were said to be “extremely supportive” (with the other reportedly “really upset”).

There was mixed reaction from parents and students, but the school stands behind the decision. A district representative released a statement:
