(KTLA) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck six miles northwest of Beverly Hills around 6:25 a.m. Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It had a depth of about five miles.
Initially, the USGS reported that the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 4.7.
An aftershock with a preliminary magnitude of 2.7 struck in the same area just before 7:25 a.m., according to the USGS.
More aftershocks could be expected, according to Robert Graves, a seismologist with the USGS.
Graves said it was also possible that the earthquake could be a “foreshock” to a larger earthquake.
