As Putin Makes Power Grab, Obama Calls for More Humble American Foreign Policy

(Washington Examiner) -- Speaking at the home of former Democratic Virginia Sen. Chuck Robb in McLean, Obama explained his thinking on the current uprisings around the world.

Obama indicated he wanted the United States to help countries during times of crisis, but to do it in a way that was more nuanced than the past.

"And part of what we have to navigate … is going to be our ability to help countries provide a voice for people who have previously been voiceless; to allow them to determine their own destiny, but to do it with some humility, recognizing that in each of these societies, we’re not going to be able to impose order," he said.

Obama signaled his desire to work with other countries around the world.

"We’re going to have to work with these communities and the international community on the basis of some core principles," he said.
