Protest Outside White House Leads to Arrest of U.S. Representative

Call this an idiotic publicity stunt, in order to play to his base.

Representative Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) joined protesters outside the White House on Tuesday, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. He, along with 30 others, was arrested.

Doug Rivlin, a spokesman for Gutiérrez, said the congressman was taken by U.S. Park Police, who have jurisdiction over the area surrounding the White House. Those arrested Tuesday were taken to Park Police headquarters in Anacostia Park, Rivlin said.

The Park Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
