IT'S OFFICIAL: Obamas Rack Up Nearly $100m Taxpayer Subsidized Travel Bill Over 8 Years
President Barack Obama and his family are no strangers to taxpayer-funded vacations, but the most updated bill of his eight years in office was even more than we expected.
The president’s vacation travel costs since 2008 have reportedly totaled nearly $97 million, according to Judicial Watch — and that’s not even a final number yet.
The government watchdog group obtained documents from the Secret Service and the U.S. Air Force detailing the costs of the first family’s travels.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton claimed that the “Obamas’ notorious abuse of presidential travel perks wasted military resources and stressed the Secret Service.”
“Judicial Watch estimates that the final costs of Obama’s unnecessary vacation and political travel will well exceed $100 million,” he explained in the report.
In fact, the costs were originally estimated to be around $85 million, but, of course, the first family had to spend Christmas in Hawaii, which increased the figure, the International Business Times reported.
Fox Business reporter Adam Shapiro pointed out that, even though President George W. Bush and his family often traveled to their ranch in Crawford, Texas, Obama’s travel costs were neverheless higher.
While presidents typically pay for personal trips out of their own pockets, The Washington Post reported, taxpayer dollars cover the costs of the staff and security as well as the use of Air Force One.
The Obamas’ took a total of 29 vacations over their eight years in the White House spanning 228 days — which, as Zero Hedge noted, at an aggregate cost of $90 million, equates to roughly $400,000 per day or $3.1 million per trip.
Furthermore, it would be bad enough if it were just vacations that taxpayers had spent this much money on, but we paid for political trips, too.
For example, Judicial Watch found that in July 2016 taxpayers paid $360,236 for Hillary Clinton to accompany Obama on Air Force One for a campaign trip to North Carolina.
Taxpayers deserve better. We deserve someone who won’t take advantage of us for personal gain. We deserve a president who understands financial responsibility.
Hopefully, that’s the leader we are getting in President-elect Donald Trump.
In the meantime, we can be thankful that the Obamas have taken their final vacation on our dime.
