Franken: Investigate ‘Charges’ That Trump Campaign Coordinated With Russia
“I’m concerned about the president-elect’s relationship with Russia. That’s sort of an understatement,” Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Friday.
“There has to be an investigation into these charges that his campaign coordinated with Russia. He should — he has to release his taxes, because we have to know–”
“It’s not going to happen,” co-host Joe Scarborough cut in.
“It may not happen now, but if we put enough pressure on him,” Franken said. “You can release your taxes if you’re under audit. Also, he has not produced any proof that he’s under audit. So — right now he’s not going to release his taxes. But let’s — let’s put pressure on him.”
Franken noted that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), at his confirmation hearing to be attorney general, said he would investigate Trump if that’s what the facts demanded.
“And, you know, if you’re a developer who has gone bankrupt several times and left your creditors holding the bag — you have to get money from somewhere, and we want to know where he’s getting that money — (if) he’s getting it from foreign sources, and if those sources are Russia, and if his campaign coordinated– those kind of questions, I think are–”
