Calif. Dems Hire Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder to Battle Trump Administration

By Dave Boyer, The Washington Times --

California legislators have hired former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder to prepare for legal fights with the incoming Donald Trump administration on issues such as sanctuary cities.

Top Democratic legislators announced Wednesday that Mr. Holder has been chosen as outside counsel to advise the state legislature on potential legal clashes with the Trump administration. He will lead a team from Covington & Burling, the law firm where he’s been working since leaving the Justice Department in 2015.

California Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon said Mr. Holder will advise them “in our efforts to resist any attempts to roll back the progress California has made.”

“With the upcoming change in administrations, we expect that there will be extraordinary challenges for California in the uncertain times ahead,” the legislators said in a statement. “This is a critical moment in the history of our nation. We have an obligation to defend the people who elected us and the policies and diversity that make California an example of what truly makes our nation great.”

They did not spell out the anticipated policies for legal battles, although the states’ sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants is believed to be high on the list for a crackdown by Mr. Trump.
