12-year-old Boy Attacked on School Bus While Wearing MAGA Hat, School SUSPENDS Him
A St. Louis-area school district is under fire after a student who was beaten for wearing a “Make America Great Again” baseball cap was suspended after the attack.
According to the U.K. Daily Mail, 12-year-old Gavin Acosta of Chesterfield, Missouri, was accosted and beaten on his school bus for wearing the hat, and the attack was all recorded on a cell phone.
In one shot, one student can be heard yelling at Gavin, “you want to build a wall? You want to build a f****** wall?” before the situation escalated.
“At one point, he just got so frustrated he pushed me,” Gavin told KMOV-TV. “And then he kept hitting me and backing me up by the window of the bus, and so I just had to push him out.”
In spite of the fact that he very obviously was not the aggressor, Gavin was still suspended by the Parkway School District.
“As a parent it’s so upsetting,” Christina Cortina, Gavin’s mother, said. “I feel like my son was made an example of, it was a tricky situation, it was politically charged.”
The school district merely said that all of the students were investigated and that everyone involved faced “consequences.” So, in other words, kids who get beat up and try to defend themselves face roughly the same consequences as the kids who beat them up. Fantastic.
KMOV also reported that “the district is also working to sit the students down and reach (a) peaceful understanding.”
It’s inconceivable whenever the left scapegoats a Trump supporter’s political opinions as an excuse for lawless violence. It’s even more reprehensible when that victim is 12 years old — and the individuals doing the scapegoating are school officials.
Gavin Acosta should not be forced to meet his attackers in order “to reach a peaceful understanding.” He was assaulted. Those responsible for the assault should be punished, and Gavin should not be, period.
The idea that children’s political viewpoints make them a legitimate target for violence — and that they need to sit down and reach a “peaceful understanding” with their attackers — is so beyond misguided that I would not hesitate to recommend the school officials involved be severely reprimanded.
If there is more to this case, we would hope the Parkway School District would come out and let America know. The fact that they haven’t indicates to me that this case is every bit as rebarbative as it looks on its face.
As it is, there are plenty of parents who are wondering whether their children could be freely bullied without recourse just because of their political beliefs.
