UPDATE: Oregon Standoff - Ammon Bundy in Custody. 1 Dead 5 Arrested
One militant is dead and the top leaders of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation are in police custody after law enforcement officials confronted members of the anti-government group Tuesday afternoon. Ammon Bundy and his followers seized the wildlife refuge on Jan. 2, insisting they wouldn't leave until their demands were met, including the freeing of two Harney County ranchers jailed on federal arson charges. Here are the latest developments:
The FBI and Oregon State Police confirm that they took an "enforcement action" to take the occupiers into custody. One person was killed and another wounded. Those arrested include:
- Ammon Edward Bundy, 40, of Emmett, Idaho
- Ryan C. Bundy, 43, of Bunkerville, Nevada
- Brian Cavalier, 44, of Bunkerville, Nevada
- Shawna Cox, 59, Kanab, Utah
- Ryan Waylen Payne, 32, of Anaconda, Montana
The name of the person who died has not been released.
Joseph Donald O'Shaughnessy, 45, of Cottonwood, Arizona, was also arrested by the Oregon State Police in Burns at about 5:50 p.m.
Each of the people who have been arrested are facing a felony charge of conspiracy to impede federal officers.
