Two Harford County sheriff’s deputies are shot and killed at a busy shopping center in Abingdon. The gunman is also dead. It all unfolded inside the Panera in Abingdon.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren with the latest on the chaotic scene.

It’s been a traumatic day for the people of Harford County. Those sheriff’s deputies had 46 years of experience serving the community between them.

The suspect is 67-year-old David Evans. He had an open warrant in Harford County on a civil matter, and in Florida for assaulting a police officer.

Two sheriff’s deputies are dead after police say suspect David Evans, who was known to police with two open warrants, opened fire on them.

“I believe, certainly, the first officer, the first deputy who went to respond to the call for service, I think the suspect took that action because he’s wearing a police uniform,” said Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Harford County.
