Teen Shot By Salt Lake City Police While Attempting To Attack A Cop With A Broomstick…
Via NY Daily News:
The 17-year-old teen shot by Salt Lake City cops — outraging witnesses who said he posed no threat — is in a coma and fighting for his life, according to a new report.
Abdi Mohamed lives with his girlfriend and their son and is originally from Kenya, according to Fox 13 in Utah.
Mohamed was shot after two cops intervened in a fight around 8 p.m. Saturday near a downtown homeless shelter that is next to a shopping mall and movie theater, authorities said.
When the officers arrived, they found the teen in the street, hitting another person with a broomstick, Detective Ken Hansen said.
Cops tried to break up the fight, but Mohamed tried to attack an officer, according to authorities.
Mohamed’s friend, Selam Mohammed, told Fox 13 that Abdi had just picked up a piece of the broomstick when cops tried to break up the brawl — with guns drawn.
“The police said, ‘drop it’, once, then they shot him,” Selam Mohammed said. “We were trying to break it up before the police even came, but the police ran in on foot and pulled their guns out already.
The teen was shot three times, his family said. He moved to Utah about 10 years ago.
“He was a really caring, good, loving boyfriend, and a really, good caring loving father, I know what he was doing every day, the things he would do for us,” his girlfriend, Becca Monson, told Fox 13.
