REPORT: Bowe Bergdahl’s Lawyers Demand Meeting With Trump… This Is Bizarre
Billionaire businessman and presidential candidate Donald Trump has made no secret of his feelings regarding alleged deserter Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, calling him a traitor to his country.
Few will ever forget that Bergdahl left his post in Afghanistan in 2009, before he was captured and held prisoner by the Taliban for years, only to be released in 2014 as part of a prisoner exchange by President Barack Obama’s administration that included the release of five senior Taliban terrorists from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
But now the lawyers for Bergdahl are calling for a private meeting with Trump, fearing that his tough rhetoric toward their client may affect his chance of receiving a fair trial, according to the U.K. Daily Mail.
In fact, the lawyers have even suggested that they may seek a deposition with Trump, or call him as a witness during Bergdahl’s legal proceedings.
“I request to interview you as soon as possible about your comments about Sergeant Bergdahl during frequent appearances in front of large audiences in advance of his court-martial,” read an official letter from Bergdahl’s military-appointed attorney, Army Lt. Col. Franklin Rosenblatt.
The alleged deserter’s civilian attorney, Eugene Fidell, recently told The Associated Press that Trump’s statements about his client “raise a serious question as to whether he has compromised Sgt. Bergdahl’s right to a fair trial.”
Trump’s campaign has not yet commented on the request from Bergdahl’s lawyers.
Bergdahl faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, which could result in a lifetime prison sentence. He will likely stand trial in a court martial this summer.
Please share this on Facebook and Twitter to help spread the word that Bowe Bergdahl’s lawyers want to meet with Donald Trump to try and get him to stop trashing their alleged deserter of a client.
