Police: Officer killed in ambush shooting was hit by friendly fire
Prince George's County police announce that a 28-year-old Maryland police officer who was killed during an ambush shooting outside a police station on Sunday died as a result of friendly fire.
Officer Jacai Colson died after he was hit in an exchange of gunfire outside the Prince George's County District III station on Sunday afternoon. Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski confirmed that Colson was hit by gunfire from other officers, instead of from the armed suspect who fired on the police station in what officers have called an unprovoked attack.
New information released Monday by the Prince George's County Police Department indicates the gunman, who has been identified by relatives as Michael Ford, intended to die in a gun battle with police. In addition, sources tell FOX 5's Paul Wagner that Michael Ford's two brothers, Malik and Elijah, were sitting in cars near the entrance to the District III police station in Palmer Park when their brother started shooting and that they were recording the entire incident on video using their cell phones.
