A new documentary about Anthony Weiner’s infamous 2013 New York City mayoral bid that was derailed by his sexting scandal comes at the “worst possible time” for Hillary Clinton, ABC’s Jonathan Karl reported Thursday.
In a clip flagged by NewsBusters, Karl said the “extraordinary behind-the-scenes footage” of “Weiner” dredges up the scandal again “at the worst possible time for Hillary Clinton and her closest aide,” Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin.
“In politics, as in much of life, timing is everything,” Karl said. “For Congressman Anthony Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s closest aide and constant presence at her side, the new documentary about his sordid political tale couldn’t come at a worse time.”
“Weiner” depicts a “political campaign set on self-destruct,” as the New York Times put it. Former Weiner aide Josh Kreigman made the film and captured such moments as Abedin telling the camera that she was “living a nightmare.”
