NASA Panic! They Just Announced 1000+ Asteroids Are Heading Towards Earth!
NASA has begged for help after discovering more than 1,000 asteroids heading in our direction on an almost unstoppable path.
The group has pleaded for aid from other countries in a bid to redirect the giant flying rocks.
It won’t be easy – as they travel at around 56,000mph and a huge cluster from the outer reaches of the universe are set to join the hundreds of asteroids already orbiting dangerously close to the planet.
In a desperate bid to tackle space debris, NASA has launched its first ever robotic mission – known as Juno – to visit the largest asteroid close to home.
The mission will attempt to remove some of its mass and redirect it into a stable orbit around the moon – and boffins hope it will pave the way to doing the same with other potentially deadly space rocks.
The space agency announced the findings this week and hope to perfect a technique that will keep the planet safe in years to come.
NASA said in a statement: "Astronauts will return to Earth with far more samples than have ever been available for study, which could open new scientific discoveries about the formation of our solar system and beginning of life on Earth."
So far though, scientists have only found four asteroids they believe they can divert.
