Mexico’s volcano Popocatépetl has put Puebla City on standby after it erupted early Tuesday — spewing ash almost three kilometers into the sky.

The eruption, which saw ash cover large areas of the southern Mexican city, forced Puebla International Airport to close, and emergency services to set up a 12-mile security radius around the massive volcano after it spat lava nearly a mile high into the sky, Mexico News Daily reported.
