Major Company FIRES U.S. Marine Veteran for Lowering Flag on Memorial Day… BOYCOTT
A Time Warner Cable employee and Marine veteran had his contract canceled after he lowered the American flag to half-staff on Memorial Day.
Allen Thornwell, a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, was terminated by the company after he corrected what he thought was an oversight. A manager at the placement service that got him the job with Time Warner Cable says the company was unnerved by his “passion for the flag and (his) political affiliation.”
According to the Charlotte Observer, Thornwell noticed the flag flying in its regular position at 2:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. Even though the flag code states that it only has to be flown at half-staff until noon, Thornwell decided to lower it. A guard came over and told him that, “It’s company policy that no one touches the flagpole.”
