Kirk Cameron Stirs Controversy With Marriage Advice

Randy DeSoto | Western Journalism

Actor Kirk Cameron stirred some controversy in a recent interview with The Christian Post when he stated that wives should respect their husbands and follow their lead.

The former Growing Pains star is currently touring the country as part of the “Love Worth Fighting For” tour, a Bible-based event intended to teach participants how to “strengthen and encourage” their marriages.

Cameron, 45, starred in the 2008 movie Fireproof about a husband and wife fighting to save their marriage, with God’s help, following biblical guidelines. The evangelical Christian has been married to actress Chelsea Noble, 51, since 1991, and they have six children together.

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron said. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”

He added that husbands are “to love their wives and not to tell their wives that they need to submit to them.”

The actor went on to point out that “a lot of people don’t know that marriage comes with instructions, and we find them right there in God’s word.”
