Hipster Study Professor Tweets ‘Threats’ To Shoot White People, Then Gets Admitted To Psych Ward
New York City police took a Rutgers University lecturer for a psychiatric evaluation Tuesday night after he tweeted about shooting “random white people.”
Kevin Allred, who is white, tweeted the comment on Nov. 10 in response to Donald Trump’s Election Day win.
“Will the 2nd amendment be as cool when I buy a gun and start shooting at random white people or no…?” he asked, according to a screenshot obtained by the New Brunswick Patch.
NYPD officers arrived at Mr. Allred’s Brooklyn home about 9 p.m. Tuesday and took him to be evaluated at a Manhattan hospital. He tweeted during the experience, racking up thousands of new followers.
“Ok. they let me leave,” he wrote. “This is a s—show and is proof positive that Trump’s crackdown on free speech has absolutely begun.”
Mr. Allred was not arrested or charged with a crime, Patch reported.
“We were informed by Rutgers PD that he made threats to kill white people and he was subsequently taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation,” an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.
“The Rutgers University Police Department responded to a complaint from a student and took all appropriate action. We have no further comment,” E.J. Miranda, a spokesperson for the New Jersey university, told Patch.
Mr. Allred told the Daily News that he spent just two hours at the hospital before doctors agreed he had no psychological issues.
“The doctors were like, ‘This is ridiculous, why did they bring you here?’ ” he said. “And I said, ‘That’s what I thought but they told me they had to do it.’ “
Mr. Allred later admitted that his tweet was incendiary but said it was meant to be part of a wider discussion about conservative double standards.
