Gowdy Gives Obama Admin HELL at Benghazi Presser… “This Is Stuff That Was Just Made Up”

Susan Rice, former U.N. ambassador and current National Security Advisor, was the target of remarks made by South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy at his Benghazi news conference Tuesday.

Rice had appeared on five Sunday morning shows in the wake of the 2012 Benghazi attack in an attempt to shift blame for the event from radical Islamic terrorism — which President Barack Obama had repeatedly claimed was on the run during his re-election campaign — to a YouTube video.

Gowdy called that claim “made up.”

With the Benghazi Committee finally releasing it investigative report, new information showed that, even within the Obama administration, State Department officials were not sure where Rice was getting her information or why she was even making those appearances.

“State Department employees in Washington, D.C., who had spoken with those on the ground in Libya after the attack were universal in their condemnation of Rice’s statements,” the committee stated, pointing to emails gathered during the course of their investigation.

Shortly after Rice’s talk show appearances, the State Department’s senior Libya desk officer sent an email to colleagues, stating, “I think Rice was off the reservation on this one,” to which the deputy director of the bureau of near eastern affairs responded, “Off the reservation on five networks!”

Others chimed in on the email chain saying, “Yup … Luckily there’s enough in her language to fudge exactly what she said/meant.”

There’s that famed Obama administration transparency again.

The White House apparently was “very worried about the politics,” the senior adviser for strategic communications explained in the thread. “This was all their doing.”

Rice was reportedly not briefed by the CIA, Defense Department, or State Department officials before making the Sunday show appearances. She was only briefed by David Plouffe — not an intelligence official, but President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign manager.

Trey Gowdy was not impressed by Rice’s handling of the situation:

“We talked to her (Rice). I thought she was inadequately prepared.  That’s what happens when you are inadequately prepared. You say a series of demonstratively false things on national television.”

Gowdy went on to describe the Sunday appearances by Rice in further detail, ultimately concluding that, “This is just stuff that’s made up.”
