While Obama Enjoyed a Golf Trip, Look What We Caught Chinese Sub Doing Near Our Navy
According to the Washington Free Beacon, the incident took place on Oct. 24 and involved a Chinese submarine stalking and targeting the USS Reagan aircraft carrier with its anti-ship cruise missiles during operations near the Sea of Japan.
The incident just so happened to take place about the same time that Russian bombers flew exceptionally close to the carrier and its strike group, and was followed just days later with an incursion by a U.S. destroyer into disputed waters claimed by China.
It is believed that the Obama administration attempted to keep the incident under wraps due to fears that escalating tensions would damage his efforts at improving U.S.-China relations.
For its part, the Pentagon has neither confirmed nor denied that the incident took place, saying only that our ships in the region are capable of defending themselves.
“I cannot discuss submarine operations, reports of submarine operations, or rumors of submarine operations,” Pacific Command spokesman Capt. Darryn James said. “I can tell you that we are completely confident in the effectiveness and capabilities of the ships and aircraft of the forward-deployed naval force.”
