Watch: 4 Yrs Ago Andrew Breitbart Made A Surprising 2016 Prediction That Could Come True
(by Warner Todd Huston, WESTERN JOURNALISM) -- Andrew Breitbart, many might say, was a human dynamo for the conservative cause; some say one of his biggest strengths was his ability to place his finger on the pulse of current events. Now, a video has resurfaced that shows just how prescient he was with his prediction that Marco Rubio could well be the Republican Party’s nominee for president.
In 2011, Breitbart was on Univision and was asked about who he thinks might be an up-and-coming Republican about to appear on the radar. Of course, the question was premised on who might beat Barack Obama in the then upcoming 2012 election; but Breitbart went further than that, and what he said seems to mirror exactly what is going on right this minute in the GOP primary race.
“I think that it’s going to be an amazing year,” Andrew said, “It’ll be like a reality show, like ‘Survivor’ or ‘American Idol,’ and they’re going to pound each other out, and, yes, I think that the strongest one will win. But let me tell you this, if Marco Rubio–even though he’s only been in the Senate for a very short period of time–that man has a huge, huge opportunity in this country and I think he could be the president. If not in this election cycle, certainly in 2016.”
Now, if that doesn’t perfectly describe what is going on in the GOP primary race right now, what does? With Donald Trump in the race, Breitbart even got the “reality show” flavor right!
The most recent debate was what some might refer to as a good example of Breitbart’s prescience as to Rubio’s possible breaking out of the pack.
With Marco Rubio’s breakout performance at the debate held at the end of October, Rubio has jumped to the top tier among the still large field of candidates; and for the first time, millions of Americans are now taking a more serious look at the Florida senator. The senator came out swinging against Jeb Bush and what some perceive as the biased, liberal media, spurring Republicans across the nation to jump to their feet in appreciation for his words.
In fact, many thought that Rubio dealt Jeb Bush a body bow that may have practically ended the former Florida governor’s campaign for president.
But with that closer look comes more scrutiny of Rubio’s record and associates. A recent report, for instance, finds that Rubio has aligned himself with a long list of big money donors who are also big fans of various plans for amnesty or for easing immigration rules to let more foreign workers into the U.S.
In any case, it is clear that Andrew Breitbart saw all of this coming.
