Russian airstrikes in Syria, Taliban rising, CIA pullback from China

RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKES IN SYRIA. Russian warplanes started striking targets in Syria on Wednesday following a vote in the country’s Federation Council to approve sending troops to Syria, The Washington Post reports

TALIBAN RISING. The United States is launching airstrikes against the Taliban to drive them back from Kunduz, but the militants only seem to be surging, making gains in the areas around Kunduz, which they captured Monday.

CIA PULLBACK FROM CHINA. The Washington Post reports that the CIA pulled officers out of China in response to the cyberhack of the Office of Personnel Management records, according to current and former U.S. officials.
