Parents Outraged After 12-Year-Old is Banned from School Because He Has Down Syndrome

By Kara Pendleton for IJReview

Twelve-year-old Aiden Killoran has been attending the same school as his friends and siblings. But now, following graduation from the sixth grade, his new school is ‘banning’ him from the campus everyone else will be attending.

His parents, Christian and Terrie, have shared the story online as it has unfolded.

But the joy was short-lived. Westhampton Beach School administrators denied Aiden’s enrollment in his new school. Why? Aiden has Down syndrome.

Until now, it has been the school district’s policy to bus students like Aiden to neighboring districts where there are special needs educators.
