Christians Plead With Okla. City Mayor to Stop Satanists Pouring Blood Over Virgin Mary
James Bascom of Spring Grove, Pa., a leader with the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property, said the group gathered to urge Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett to rescind a city permit given to satanist Adam Daniels. Daniels obtained a permit to have a protest titled the "Virgin Birth is Lie" on Thursday outside St. Joseph Old Cathedral, 307 NW 4.
Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, leader of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, recently issued a public statement asking the faithful to focus their attention on the celebration of Jesus' birth instead of the satanists' plans.
Bascom said his group knew about Coakley's statement but felt the satanists' public demonstration warranted a public response from the Christian faith community.
"We feel our faith compels us to do something," Bascom said. "We're here doing a very peaceful and prayerful rosary rally — something public because it's (satanists' demonstration) a public attack on our faith."
Bascom said the rally participants came from Oklahoma and different parts of the country including Pennsylvania, where the sponsoring organization is headquartered, plus Kansas, Texas and Louisiana.
Rally participants sang ”God Bless America” and some Christian songs. They also recited the rosary several times.
Most of the rally participants held signs that declared their love for Jesus and Mary, the mother of Jesus, while denouncing the satanists' plans to desecrate a statue of Mary by pouring costume blood over it.
