A gunman opened fire on the busy Sacramento City College campus Thursday afternoon, killing one victim and badly wounding another before running away.

Police said they didn’t know if anyone involved was a Sac City student. The seriously wounded man was taken to an area hospital. A third person was grazed by a bullet.

Sacramento Police Department spokeswoman Traci Trapani said the attack appeared to be an “isolated incident” rather than a campus shooting spree.

By 6:30 p.m., Sacramento police said they were still searching for a sole suspect, whom they described on Twitter as a “male Tongan, white shirt/beige cargo shorts, last seen fleeing (on) foot from the shooting.”

The shooting and ensuing manhunt badly rattled the campus and the neighborhoods around it. Throughout the later afternoon and early evening, a police helicopter circled overhead and officers cleared classrooms building by building.
