Another Cop, Another Dead Dog [VIDEO]
It seems that more and more these days, cops are not just shooting unarmed citizens, but dogs too. As was the case for a Florida woman who's dog was shot and killed by a police officer making a "courtesy stop" to advise her that her car door was left open.
According to a local media report:
The dog’s owner, Gillian Palacios, told Local 10 News that the officer knocked on her door at 832 SW Seventh St. to inform her that she had left her car door open.
She said her 2-year-old, 40-pound bulldog-mix Duchess, ran outside and was shot three times in the head by the officer.
The owners have set up a Go Fund Me page and a Twitter campaign #JUSTICEFORDUTCHESS
According to the owner:
"This "officer" came to my home with seemingly good intentions of warning us of an opened car door. He knocked on the front door and when I opened it slightly our young pup Dutchess stuck her nose out to see who was there and she tried to go out to greet him. Within seconds of her exiting the doorway she was met with not one but three bullets to her head. He did not try to wound her. He made certain that our girl would not survive his attack. He shot her dead on her own front door step right in front of us.
He did not give us an opportunity to try to get her back in the house safely and without incident. He reacted out of fear and cowardice and not only murdered our family member in cold blood, but also put the rest of my family members present (my 18 year old daughter and 8 year old son) in danger as he was firing his weapon only three feet from where we were standing."
**WARNING** Graphic Video:
The dog was doing what any dog would do when a stranger comes to its home, it goes out to investigate. Although there is no audio in the video, it’s likely the dog was just trying to greet this stranger and probably would have just sniffed his crotch and wagged her tail had the officer not immediately backed up and pulled his gun.
The shooting of family dogs by police is becoming an epidemic in this country. Police will argue that they fear for their safety and have no choice but to execute what many dog owners would consider a member of their family.
I wonder how the unarmed police in the UK are able to handle these situations so effectively without killing dogs.
